Your first laser hair removal appointment: what to expect
Walking into a laser clinic for the first time is easier when you know how the session goes. Here is the full step-by-step.
Before you arrive
Shave the treatment area about 24 hours before your session. Arrive with clean skin and avoid lotions, creams, or deodorant on the area. Do not wax, pluck, or use hair removal creams for 4 to 6 weeks beforehand. If you have tanned recently, mention it — some settings need to be adjusted for sun-exposed skin.
The consultation
Your specialist will review your skin and hair type, talk through your goals, and set expectations about the number of sessions you will likely need. This is the moment to ask anything about the treatment, the device, and the aftercare.
During the session
You will wear protective glasses and the specialist will pass the handpiece over the area. Most sessions are quick — a small area like the upper lip takes about 10 minutes, larger areas longer. You can relax; the specialist will guide you through the entire process.
Right after
Expect mild redness and slight swelling, similar to a light sunburn, that fades within a few hours. You can usually return to your normal routine immediately, but follow the aftercare instructions and protect the area from the sun.
