How many laser hair removal sessions do you need?

Most people need 6 to 8 sessions. Here is why laser hair removal works in stages and what to expect between appointments.

Why one session is not enough

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles during the growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle. At any given time, only a portion of your hair is in this phase, which is why every session only treats a fraction of the follicles. Consecutive sessions catch the remaining hairs as they enter the growth phase.

The typical treatment plan

Most clients complete 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Areas like the upper lip or underarms often need fewer sessions, while larger or denser areas such as legs and Brazilian bikini may need more. Your exact plan is defined during your consultation and adjusted as you progress.

What happens between sessions

You will notice hair growing more slowly and becoming finer and lighter after each appointment. Some hair will fall out naturally within 1 to 2 weeks. Do not wax or pluck between sessions — shaving is fine and recommended, because the laser needs the hair root intact to treat the follicle.

Maintenance after the initial plan

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, not a guarantee of 100% removal. After completing your sessions, most clients need an occasional touch-up appointment once or twice a year to keep the area smooth.
